Billy Bob Thornton Interview...

Currently working on a movie called Levities (with Morgan Freeman and Holly Hunter), singer, actor and director, Billy Bob Thornton took some time out to talk to ShowBizIreland.com.

Currently starring in the Coen brothers' A Man Who Wasn't There, and in the soon to be released Monsters Ball, 46 year old Thornton is also enjoying the success of his current album, Private Radio.

"I was thinking the other day, I'm married to the love of my life, my kids are healthy and doing great at school, I do the work I want to do, the movies, the writing songs, the touring. Every day I thank my lucky stars. I feel like I'm the luckiest man alive", he explained.

And why shouldn't he? With successful careers in both the film and music industries, the boy from Arkansas has done well.

Married to actress Angelina Jolie, he tells us: "We have a policy where we are never away from each other for more than two weeks".

Do you find that difficult, what with your hectic lifestyles?

"Not really, we've worked it out pretty well. I'm in Montreal, she just left a couple of days ago. She was doing a movie here and the movie I was doing, it didn't matter what city it was in, so I said 'hey guys, how about Montreal', they said fine. Things work out pretty well".

Having just completed a 60's pop cover record (something he always wanted to do), which will be released next year, Billy Bob is halfway through recording the follow up album to Private Radio.

Primarily a story-telling album, Private Radio contains songs such as 'Angelina'.

You and Angelina have a tremendous love-bond for one another. Do you have any particular secret?

"We met each other and we knew instantly. There was no doubt about it and there never has been since. It sounds trite but it is the truth - we are absolutly best friends. If you are best fiends you talk out everything. So before there is ever a problem, you already know each other. Honesty, and really letting the other person know what you are feeling all the time, keep you ok."

An extremely friendly and easy to talk to man, Billy Bob Thornton does not believe his own hype. Happier to stay at home and write music than attend glitzy Hollywood parties, this down to earth star is a refreshing break from the norm.

"When I'm around famous people I still don't feel like I'm one of them. I go a little shy around them. I don't get the red carpet treatment a lot anyway! It embarrasses me. I get embarrassed when people call my name. I appreciate it, because I love that people like what I do."

What kind of current music do you like?

"I don't find the music these days is good - I listen to a lot of older stuff. I do find every now and then I'll run into something I like. I don't want to be influenced by what's popular. And some good movies even. I don't watch movies when I'm making them, except old ones. I'm not exactly a huge movie star. I'm known more as an actor. Not so much as a celebrity person. In Europe, people appreciate what I do more, really. A movie like 'A Man Who Wasn't There', is really more of a European movie. Over here people want to see Die Hard."

Well die-hard fans of Billy Bob Thornton can see him in The Shelter, Vicar St., on April 1st when he kicks off his European tour here in Dublin.
