With a big black phallic shaped instrument in his hand, Channel Six's roaming reporter Brian Devereux searched the streets of Dublin yesterday desperately seeking unsuspecting young men. Sounds ominous? Well it should, he was touting punters for video-bites for his interactive music show 'Popscene'...

Yup. The streets of Dublin aint safe these days. But forget roaming gangs of youths carrying knives or grubby heroin addicts lurking in every dark alley-way... Geeky reporters with microphones are what you really need to watch out for folks. Fear them.

Yesterday we spotted Channel 6's cheeky-chappie Brian Devereux lurking around Grafton Street with a camera man, seeking-out the views of any young person who fit his Popscene Show's demographic. Be careful lads, you might accidentally flick-by the station and actually see yourself on-de-telly. Not likely anyone else will, but you never know?

Ah bless. We're not knocking the fledgling TV station - some of its original production isn't half bad (and Family Guy rocks!). Plus they did manage to talent spot model Michelle Doherty before anyone else did (apart from us) – she's possibly the ONLY decent female presenter in Ireland at the moment. Annnd we include Amanda Byram in that summation. Although, there's an Irish girl out in the USA called Jane Wogan, niece of Terry, who has some serious presenting chops on her...

And speaking of talent, we did happen to check-out Brian Devereux's Pop show recently... Our verdict? Well, he's quite ballsy, witty and articulate - and seems to shine when shoved into off-the-cuff interviews and ad-hoc situations. Not your typical Irish presenter type - thank fecking God! Of course it's all a bit low budget but hey, this is Ireland. All TV production here is low budget... And then some.

If fact, we're big fans of Channel 6 here at ShowBiz Ireland... At least they're giving an alternative career route for edgy presenters who might have a chance of breaking outside of the safe Irish broadcasting bubble and actually achieve something internationally. Let’s face it; the other main channels are hell-bent on producing contemporary media friendly camera bunnies and over made-up PC robot clones. So don't expect to see the likes of Brian Ormond or Caroline Morahan at Channel 6 anytime soon. Ahem.
