DUBLIN: World Music Capital...

Ireland, and Dublin in particular, has seen an overwhelming number of top yet eclectic acts perform in indoor and outdoor venues over the past week or so - here's a roundup...

DMX PLAYS THE AMBASSADOR

ShowBiz Ireland has never been so busy this month covering everything from beauty pageants to movie premieres and golf tournaments to wedding ceremonies but one thing we always make time for is live music.

THE RHYTHM KINGS PLAY VICAR STREET

And this month we've had a bumper load of top acts with festivals such as Oxegen, Bud Rising, Kilkenny, and even Bray keeping us on our toes.

PRIMAL SCREAM PLAY THE REDBOX: BOBBY GILLESPIE

The Badest of all the Gangsta' rappers DMX was in town recently and ripped up the Ambassador Theatre in his usual style although he was over an hour late on stage so the crowd nearly ripped up the place for him!

PRIMAL SCREAM PLAY THE REDBOX: MANI

A little less crazy but none the less entertaining (in a pipe and slippers kinda way) was Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings who brought their brand of the Blues to Vicar Street this week. Apparently Bill wants to put his Rolling Stones days behind him as he refused to play any of their songs or sign any Stones memorabilia (I wonder if he would sign my Mandy Smith photos?).

THE CURE PLAY OXEGEN

Those of you who miss the MADCHESTER days of acid tabs, spliffs and un-Happy Mondays should have got your arses down to the Primal Scream gig in The REDBOX, the infamous Bobby Gillespie had former Stone Roses bass player and all-round-legend Mani on stage with him. Nostalgia in buckets here I tell thee...

THE SCISSOR SISTERS PLAY OXEGEN

Robert Smith and the other strange hairdos which make-up The Cure joined up with The Strokes and the most excellent Scissor Sisters at Oxegen's Saturday show - we didn't make it to the Sunday show because of unforeseen circumstances i.e. we whimped-out because of the rain.

THE STROKES PLAY OXEGEN

Paul Simon and his mate Mr. Art Garfunkle gave Dubliners another heaping helping of nostalgia when they played the RDS - it was like every song was a memorable hit record but sadly we couldn't see Chevy Chase anywhere on the stage?

SIMON & GARFUNKLE PLAY THE RDS

And just to show just how much of a desirable place Dublin is for musicians The Mayor of Baltimore - the much tipped future President of The USA (yes you heard it here first), Martin O'Malley brought his bulging biceps and rockin' tunes to Eamon Dorans to show there is still some soul in politics... Good Man yerself!

MARTIN O'MALLEY PLAYS EAMON DORAN'S

Air Supply also played Dublin this month and we damn well covered it with gusto. Ahem, one of ShowBiz Ireland's snappers is a fan of the abstract Australian blasts-from-the-past... Now aren't we hip kids?

AIR SUPPLY PLAY VICAR STREET

Oh and Bic Runga came all the way from New Zealand to sign some CD's and sing a few songs in Music City... Where would we be without this cutie-pie?
