Fergie Gets An Etch-A-Sketch...

When a member of thee British Royal Family comes to your country we're pretty damn sure that you're supposed to bestow on them some culturally significant gift representative of your Nation's proud heritage. It's proper protocol 'n' stuff. When Dutchess of York, Sarah Ferguson, visited Dublin at the weekend she got an Etch-A-Sketch... Etch-A-Sketch your Ma'am?

Us Irish aren't too good when it comes to formalities. Generally when a foreigner visits these shores they get a slap on the back, a pint o' Guinness shoved in their face, followed by a "get that down ya, it'll put hair on your chest" instruction. Proper bleedin’ order too, we don't do the whole stiff upper lip wot wot thing.

So we were quite amused to see Sarah Ferguson leaving The Late Late Toy Show at the weekend carrying an Etch-A-Sketch she was gifted at RTE. We can just imagine tourists being guided around Buckingham Palace in years to come being shown tributes from foreign Nations: "to your left we have an embossed golden plate presented to The Queen by the Belgians, beside that we have a diamond tiara Princess Anne was gifted in Monaco. To your right we have an Etch-A-Sketch The Duchess of York picked up in Ireland." Then some large American woman staring in awe at the red plastic toy says to her husband: "my gawd Harold, look at the amazing craftwork!"

Fergie wasn't the only dignitary out at The Toy Show. Oh no. We had members of The Ahern clan out at RTE too. Well with the Da being the former Taoiseach, one of the daughters the best author in the world, and the other daughter married to Nicky Byrne from Westlife - the Aherns are the nearest thing we have to Royalty in Ireland.

Proud parents Nicky & Georgina had their twin boys Rocco and Jay with them, and even though it was a late night for the youngsters, it's a tradition in Ireland that kids get to stay up till all hours the night of the Toy Show. It's in the constitution or something like that...

Dougie Poynter (McFly)

Providing some light musical relief on the night was the McFly boys... And we're glad to say that on this trip their bass player Dougie Poynter managed to keep his finger out of his nose unlike the last time they were over... Well, at least when we were watching him.

Danny Jones (McFly)

With a sound that is best described as Punk Rock lite, the McFlyers kept the aged studio onlookers tapping their toes and, of course, gave a copy of their album to everyone in the audience. It'd be rude not to.
